During this engaging four-day workshop experience, students will develop and express their perspective on the city through the lens of young people living in New York City. Each participant will have the opportunity to design vibrant city landscapes using a diverse array of mixed media materials, including paisley pattern bandanas, sheer scarves, embroidery techniques, colorful thread, decorative beads, and fabric paint.
Each session builds progressively upon the previous one, encouraging participants to carefully observe and reflect on their surrounding urban environment. Starting from favorite city locations and daily routines, students will experiment with layering diverse textures, executing stitching techniques, and applying colors to represent different times of day and atmospheric conditions. By the final day of the workshop, all participants will combine their individual fabric artworks into a unified collaborative city-inspired installation, merging personal creative vision with collective group expression and community impact.
