Class Description

Description

Did you know you can construct a hardcover book with your own two hands?

In just one afternoon, you’ll learn how to:
  • Understand basic bookbinding terminology and techniques
  • Expertly sew together gathered sections of pages
  • Make a hard cover, back and spine for your book
  • Turn your favorite cotton fabric into functional, easy to use book cloth, which you’ll use to adorn your DIY book cover.
  • Bring it all together to create one amazing DIY journal, sketchbook, scrapbook– whatever you want it to be.
No experience or prior knowledge of bookbinding is necessary to take this class. We’ll teach you everything you need to know from start to finish to take home your own DIY Hardcover Book– and the skills to make more books on your own.

If you’ve taken Bookbinding 101 with us before– great. You’ll have a big picture understanding of how books come together, though we’ll tackle this project from a different angle, utilizing a completely different binding technique.

This is a great class for those looking to expand their bookbinding knowledge or for complete beginners alike.

Are materials provided and included in cost of the class? No.
Fee includes materials and tools needed to make one hand-bound hardcover book, but you need to bring fabric for your book exterior.

A selection of fabric in both solids and awesome patterns will be available for purchase during class so that you can customize your project.

Refund Policy

We do not issue refunds on workshop registrations.

  • If you register for a workshop and later become unable to attend, we will gladly offer a credit if you notify us at least 5 business days before the workshop.
  • Workshop credits are not redeemable for cash and cannot be applied to merchandise purchases
  • We are unable to offer credits of any kind, or honor reschedule requests, with less than 5 business days advance notice.
  • Credits cannot be given for any registrations for workshops hosted by visiting/ out of town instructors. Due to the nature of these one-time-only workshops, all events hosted by special guests are subject to this policy. Thank you for understanding!
  • In the event a class is cancelled or rescheduled due to inclement weather, or other Act of God, you will receive a credit to take another class at a later date (in-person or virtual).

Our workshops require a great deal of pre-planning, including ordering supplies and tools, booking staff, and making commitments to pay our instructors -- all based on the number of students who register. When students ask to cancel or reschedule at the last minute, we lose money. As a small business, we are unable to absorb these costs and still keep our class prices low.

In fairness to all of our customers, we are unable to make exceptions to our policy, including for reasons of illness or travel. If you are unable to attend a workshop at the last minute, we suggest giving your spot to a friend!

Refund Processing Fees:

  • The following only applies in the event a provider’s cancellation/refund policy allows for cancellations and a full refund, please see above or contact CourseHorse to determine eligibility.
  • In the event a class is still going to occur and a full refund is requested, and you are eligible for a full refund in accordance with the provider’s policy, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from your refund amount.
