Description

This course welcomes beginners and intermediate-level artists interested in exploring charcoal as an expressive artistic medium with a rich historical tradition. You may arrive with prepared concepts or construct a still life arrangement during the session. Instruction covers the fundamental elements of visual communication: value, tonal contrast, linear elements, chromatic relationships, and additional foundational principles.

You will develop the ability to examine artworks in museum settings and articulate their compositional structure, tonal values, and color relationships to others.

The Art Workshop provides all necessary art materials; you are welcome to bring your own supplies if preferred.

Refund Policy

No refunds. The student must cancel or reschedule 4 business days before the class registered for and only one cancellation is allowed. No exceptions.

In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.

    Raphael’s workshop was exactly what we didn’t know we needed. We’d drawn before, but it had been a minute and his mix of structure and inspiration is fun and different. Even as non-beginners, techniques like mark mapping, value scales, and proportion measuring felt brand new and levelled us up quick. The way he broke down blending charcoal made it feel simple, but changed the way we looked at drawing. 
 The space has this quiet focus, super supportive vibe - students at every level, but all in. Loved how Raphael explained the why behind every move, not just the how. Even the quick hits of art history and philosophy were a solid add - added just the right depth without weighing things down - never too heady but always interesting. We walked out feeling sharper, more confident, and ready to keep the momentum going. If you’re looking for a chill drawing class with lots of charm, this is it.
