Class Description

Description

I will open with an overview of my approach and in drawing and painting the portrait.

Topics we will review are how to structure the head using a broad approach, working from large to small shapes.   Specific methods to structure the portrait will be explored like the Loomis method and using angles to correct the portrait.  As the class progresses we will focus on drawing and paiinting the features of the face.  Understanding light and shadow is also an important part of this course and we will focus on how to create successful transitions and gradations in your work.

We will also spend some time talking about what makes a successful composition in a work of art, so that students can understand how to place a figure in a setting.

You may draw or paint in this class.

We will work from a live model and have the same model for four weeks at a time.  All levels are welcome.

I welcome all mediums, Pencil, Charcoal, Oil, Watercolor or Pastel.
