We invite you to join taxidermy and entomology artist Amber Maykut for a beginners class in butterfly pinning and mounting. All materials–including an ethically sourced, naturally deceased butterfly–will be provided for each student. This is a two-part class which meets twice for 2 hours on two consecutive weeks (4 hours total).
In the first class, students will learn general butterfly preparation and pinning. Basic handling, spreading, pinning, and posing techniques will be introduced. In the second class, students will learn to mount their specimen. Students are invited to bring any shadowbox frame, glass dome, or other container to mount their butterfly in. Basic frames will be provided by the teacher. Each student will leave the class with their own creation.
Please note: No former taxidermy or entomology experience is required. No harsh or dangerous chemicals are used. Individual help will be provided to each student throughout class. Minimum age for students to join is 10 yrs.
