Description

Explore the process of Gestural Abstraction, a way of making art rooted in the physicality of the movements used to apply paint to the canvas. Instead of a traditional controlled method of painting figurative works, this process is intuitive and abstract and the goal is typically a deep personal expression of feelings. While varied in their techniques, the artists that paved the way for this method were Lee Krasner, Willem and Elaine de Kooning, Joan Mitchell, and Franz Kline, among others. During this event, you’ll learn about the boom of creativity surrounding Gestural Abstraction, some of these iconic artist’s techniques of working, and how you can create your own Gestural Abstraction paintings that capture the spontaneity and emotion of your own personal experience.

Art history lesson and all art supplies are included.
