Class Description

Description

In our Intro to Mosaics class, you're encouraged to come prepared with your own design, or seek inspiration from the vibrant surroundings, such as the subway ride over or the creative hub at Urban Glass. In this class, we will go over the basics of this ancient art form, learning glass cutting techniques and the art of composing shapes to form personal designs. We will bring the entire piece together with grout at the end of the class.

What to Expect: You will leave the  class with your piece already finished. This class will be split into a step by step session where I will show you demonstrations of how to create mosaics from initial drawings to tools we use to cut and paste the glass itself, but you will spend the majority of the time working on your piece.

Eligibility: This class is open to all levels, come with a variety of ideas and we can work together to bring your designs to reality! No previous experience required. Open to ages 12 and up.

The teacher was wonderful. Supplies were plentiful. We got a great tour of Urban Glass so I need to decide what to try next. I think everyone was very pleased with their projects. Please note that the projects are 10x10 inches. It was a pleasant surprise that they were larger than a coaster.

Loved this class. I wish it ran maybe one hour longer but for the most part it was great. Wonderful facility. Very informative and fun teacher. I would highly recommend.
  • One Day Mosaics

Great introduction to mosaics for first-timers. I suggest coming prepared with an idea of what design you'd like to create, and pack a lunch or snack with you, since it is 6 hours long. You'll also get to learn about UrbanGlass's different areas of work. This class was a rewarding way to spend a Sunday, and I highly recommend it to all!
