Class Description

Description

In this hands-on darkroom class, you will bring previously developed film and a folder or binder to organize your prints. The session covers creating a contact sheet from a roll of film, selecting 2 to 3 frames to print, and then executing the complete printing process. You will learn how to make test strips to determine appropriate exposure times, use the enlarger to frame your image precisely, apply dodging and burning techniques for tonal control, and work with filters for creative effects.

This class meets twice, and you must be available to attend both sessions. There are no makeup dates available due to the intensive nature and short duration of the course.

You will leave the course with one contact sheet and at least one to two finished 8-by-10-inch prints. The studio provides print dryers and drying racks for finishing your work. Alternatively, students may purchase and bring a blotter book for air-drying prints at home.

AlterWork supplies all darkroom equipment, chemicals, and RC (resin-coated) photographic paper needed for printing. You will simply need to bring your developed film and, optionally, a blotter book for drying your finished prints.
