Class Description

Description

Are you passionate about exploring new destinations and documenting your journeys through photography? Whether your adventures take you across continents or through local communities, compelling travel photography communicates the essence of a place, capturing its inhabitants, cultural richness, built environments, natural beauty, and subtle nuances. In this course, you will master the art of bringing home photographs that resonate emotionally and transport viewers back to the authentic moment of creation.

Part 1: Essential Techniques in Travel Photography
Conducted in our live, fully interactive virtual learning environment

Prepare yourself before your trip begins. Develop skills in researching your chosen destination, strategizing shot composition in advance, and selecting appropriate equipment while mastering critical camera settings. Study specialized approaches for capturing architectural elements, urban panoramas, expansive landscapes, and intimate local particulars. Build confidence when engaging with community members and recording their personal narratives. Master the manipulation of natural and artificial light to produce a powerful, engaging visual story regardless of time of day.

Part 2: Hands-On Field Experience in Chinatown, New York City

Apply your newly acquired techniques in Chinatown, one of Manhattan's most historically significant and visually captivating communities. Execute the techniques from Part 1 as you photograph colorful thoroughfares, decorative signage, energetic commercial spaces, and historically significant structures. Deploy techniques of lighting, compositional balance, and narrative visual language to document the distinctive character of this vibrant metropolitan district. Observe and interpret the neighborhood's culinary traditions through your lens, emphasizing colorful produce arrangements and the architectural personality of dining establishments. Your instructor will provide real-time guidance, answer emerging questions, and offer constructive feedback to strengthen your technical approach, allowing you to depart with an enhanced understanding of travel photography principles and a unique collection of images showcasing your artistic growth.
