Bring the ideas you have been waiting to try and see how far you can take them. Whether you want to create an inventive teapot, an unusual planter, a large figurative piece, or a sculptural form, this class offers the guidance and technical support to develop your work throughout the semester.
Through conceptual inquiry and material exercises, you will explore a range of approaches to building and thinking in three dimensions. Learn to use internal skeletal structures to create larger, stable forms, turn a two dimensional design into three dimensional volume, and sketch in space with stilts and supports. These approaches will expand how you think and build while giving you new ways to address form, scale, and stability.
Alongside these matrial exercises, we will consider how patience, focus, restraint, repetition, and endurance can sharpen perception and deepen our understanding of both the work and ourselves as makers.
Learning through teaching allows a student to gain knowledge. Practicing that knowledge starts us down the road toward a deeper understanding.
After all, who wants an answer when you can have a question?
