The oldest surviving woven rug originates from Iran, crafted approximately 2500 years ago. Throughout history, people have created textile panels for practical warmth, comfort, and artistic decoration. Hooked rugs became popular during the 19th century, but required slow, labor-intensive production methods. Modern tufting technology produces the same effect by pushing yarn through fabric and either cutting or looping the strands, making the ancient textile art form accessible and fast for contemporary makers.
This hands-on workshop teaches you the techniques and methods to design and create your own custom wall rug artwork. Whether you're a beginner discovering tufting for the first time or have previous tufting experience, this class delivers engaging and satisfying projects tailored to your skill level. Beginners will learn foundational tufting methods and best practices, while experienced makers can explore advanced artistic techniques and design possibilities.
Consider bringing your favorite cartoon character, zodiac symbol, monogram, or beloved pet portrait to life through your textile creation. The class provides numerous pre-made professionally designed designs from which to choose, or with expert guidance from experienced instructors, you can develop and create entirely original images and designs from scratch.
This is the Date Night Option: Two participants work together to design and create a single textile artwork, enjoy pizza and a bottle of wine during the workshop. At least one person must be 18 years or older.
