Class Description

Description

Shibori is an ancient and revered Japanese resist-dyeing tradition that employs diverse techniques, including precise creasing, strategic folding, controlled color application, decorative hand-stitching, fabric binding, and careful knotting to produce strikingly beautiful and precisely defined patterned textiles with exceptional visual interest. Throughout this comprehensive and immersive course, students explore and master multiple distinct shibori methods using various fabric samples to develop practical competency in the technique and build confidence in their ability to create original designs. The techniques taught encompass traditional approaches as well as contemporary innovations in the shibori tradition.

Our educational philosophy prioritizes mastery of the dyeing technique itself over achievement of a single perfect final product. We believe that understanding the process and developing skills is more valuable than achieving flawless results. Our core institutional mission is to provide students with enduring knowledge and transferable skills that serve their creative practice throughout their lifetime, long after the specific class concludes. Students leave with a practical understanding that they can continue applying independently.

One Day Intensive sessions do not include complimentary access to open studio time during scheduled breaks or outside class hours, though students may arrange additional studio access through our facilities office if interested in extended practice time.

Refund Policy

For all Adult & Youth cancellations, we are unable to refund processing fees collected at the time of registration by our third-party class registration software Active. Any credit or refunds will be for the cost of the class only.

For Adult Student Cancellations: Please double check your calendar before signing up for a class! Our small team works very hard throughout the year to schedule each class and coordinate with our students. When you register for a spot in one of our classes, you are reserving a seat and committing to join us for that date and time. If for some reason you need to cancel a class you’ve signed up for, please note the following policies:

At least one month before class: Students may receive full refund or credit to a future class at TAC, minus a $25 processing fee for Morning/Evening Series, Weekend Intensive, One Day Classes and 4-Week Classes, and a $10 processing fee for After Workshops.

Less than one month before class: Students may receive credit only to a future class at TAC, minus a $25 processing fee for Morning/Evening Series, Weekend Intensive, and 4-Week Classes, One Day Classes and a $10 processing fee for After Workshops. We are unable to offer refunds with less than one month notice.

All requests for refunds or class credits must be made in writing via email to [email protected]. In addition to the timing guidelines above, we of course appreciate as much notice as possible when making any adjustments to registrations.

Coursehorse students will need to contact Coursehorse directly about cancellations or refunds. TAC cancellation policy will apply.

All classes, workshops, special events, and gift certificates are non-transferable. No refunds will be given on Gift Certificates. Gift Certificates are valid for (1) one year from the date of purchase.

CLASS MAKE-UP POLICY

Classes do not include individual Make Up sessions -- though you may be able to schedule a private lesson with your instructor based on their availability. We are unable to pro-rate classes or refund students who cannot to make it to class. If you have to miss a class, you are responsible for catching up during Open Studio time.

In any event where a student wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
