Cloche hats emerged as an iconic fashion statement during the 1920s, featuring a distinctive bell-like shape that sits snugly on the head. Crafted from lightweight straw in warmer months, these windproof and elegant hats became synonymous with modern style and remain a timeless accessory today.
In this specialized two-day workshop, you will learn the professional techniques behind creating stunning cloche designs from an instructor renowned for her exquisite couture cloches. You will discover the draping secrets and precise trim detailing that distinguish fine millinery work. Through hands-on practice, you will master shaping a Panama hat body on a balsa utility block to achieve the perfect cloche silhouette. You will then learn to stabilize the head size by adding a sweatband to the interior and reinforce the overall structure by inserting millinery wire along the cut edge. The workshop concludes with finishing techniques, including covering the wire with grosgrain ribbon trim and adding decorative embellishments that accentuate the beautiful lines of your finished hat.
Additional Information: All materials are provided. Basic hand-sewing skills are required. Feel free to bring any decorative elements you would like to incorporate into the final design of your hat.
