Once you have completed Pattern Making for Beginners, this intermediate course is the ideal next step in your sewing journey. Having focused on skirt construction, you will now advance to comprehensive bodice drafting and development. This course includes:
- Proper techniques for measuring yourself and other individuals accurately
- Step-by-step instructions for drafting a custom bodice sloper from your precise measurements
- Essential techniques and terminology used in professional pattern development
- Practical modifications and adjustments for bodice patterns
- Methods for creating well-fitted sleeve patterns
The skills you develop in this class enable you to construct tops and shirts independently or combine your bodice pattern with the skirt pattern from the prerequisite course to create complete dresses with professional results.
Projects:
You will create a custom bodice pattern entirely from scratch using your own measurements.
Fabric and Supplies:
Supplies to provide: 2 yards of pattern paper, mechanical pencil, eraser, tracing wheel, matte finish scotch tape, and 2 yards of muslin for test garments.
Note: You will also need fabric for the bodice itself, but this is not required until later in the class. Specific recommendations will be discussed on the first day, so there is no need to bring it initially.
Course Duration:
6 weeks, 2 hours per week, totaling 12 hours of instruction.
Prerequisite:
Successful completion of Sewing 101 or equivalent sewing experience, plus Pattern Making for Beginners.
Virtual Class Recordings:
All virtual classes will be recorded and made available to registered students. If you miss a session or need additional practice time at home, you may request the recording to review at your own pace. Recordings are exclusively available to students registered for the course, and only the instructor will be captured on video.
