Class Description

Description

Learn the complete process of spinning yarn from raw fiber to finished skein in this comprehensive hands-on class. You'll discover the journey from sheep shearing to shelf-ready yarn while mastering the fundamentals of hand spinning using drop spindles, learning about top and bottom whorl construction, and experimenting with diverse natural fibers, including wool, alpaca, cotton, and bamboo. Students have the opportunity to try their hand at using a traditional spinning wheel and will leave with multiple handmade skeins of their own creation.

Important Course Notes:

  • These classes emphasize acquiring and developing a skill that will serve you for a lifetime, rather than focusing primarily on completing a final product. This philosophy aligns with The Arts Center's core mission of providing enduring skills and knowledge.
  • All sample materials and instructional supplies needed to learn the technique are included with the course. Any additional specialty materials students wish to use for their projects must be supplied by the student based on their creative vision.
  • This one-day class does not include Open Studio time for extended practice.
  • Students should wear clothing that can get soiled with natural fibers and dust.

Refund Policy

For all Adult & Youth cancellations, we are unable to refund processing fees collected at the time of registration by our third-party class registration software Active. Any credit or refunds will be for the cost of the class only.

For Adult Student Cancellations: Please double check your calendar before signing up for a class! Our small team works very hard throughout the year to schedule each class and coordinate with our students. When you register for a spot in one of our classes, you are reserving a seat and committing to join us for that date and time. If for some reason you need to cancel a class you’ve signed up for, please note the following policies:

At least one month before class: Students may receive full refund or credit to a future class at TAC, minus a $25 processing fee for Morning/Evening Series, Weekend Intensive, One Day Classes and 4-Week Classes, and a $10 processing fee for After Workshops.

Less than one month before class: Students may receive credit only to a future class at TAC, minus a $25 processing fee for Morning/Evening Series, Weekend Intensive, and 4-Week Classes, One Day Classes and a $10 processing fee for After Workshops. We are unable to offer refunds with less than one month notice.

All requests for refunds or class credits must be made in writing via email to [email protected]. In addition to the timing guidelines above, we of course appreciate as much notice as possible when making any adjustments to registrations.

Coursehorse students will need to contact Coursehorse directly about cancellations or refunds. TAC cancellation policy will apply.

All classes, workshops, special events, and gift certificates are non-transferable. No refunds will be given on Gift Certificates. Gift Certificates are valid for (1) one year from the date of purchase.

CLASS MAKE-UP POLICY

Classes do not include individual Make Up sessions -- though you may be able to schedule a private lesson with your instructor based on their availability. We are unable to pro-rate classes or refund students who cannot to make it to class. If you have to miss a class, you are responsible for catching up during Open Studio time.

In any event where a student wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
