You and your friend will collaboratively create ONE car together. At least one participant must be 18 years of age or older.
Depending on your personal experiences, this workshop provides either a chance at redemption for the pinewood derby race from 1996 where you came in second place, or an opportunity to finally participate in the pinewood derby experience you always wanted to do as a third grader but missed due to circumstances beyond your control, such as a parent missing the cub scouts signup date. Now is your moment to create and experience the thrill of racing.
Basically: In this condensed modern version of the classic format, you'll be given a wooden block and exactly two hours to transform it into an impressive racing machine capable of winning the race held at the end of the workshop against all other participants.
The workshop includes some light woodworking instruction. We'll teach you how to operate workshop saws and power tools if you'd like to use them to craft your vehicle. However, you can absolutely participate and have a fantastic experience even if you prefer to keep things simple and manual, using sandpaper and focusing on the aesthetic design of your car. We'll provide all the decorative elements you need to make your creation truly one-of-a-kind, including paint, racing stripes, googly eyes, and numerous other embellishments.
The bottom line is that you're going to have an amazing time designing the car of your dreams and then watching in real-time as it races in the most thrilling competition. Unless you're extremely competitive by nature, in which case we suggest bringing some cash to potentially influence the judge's decisions.
A 10% discount toward a future workshop is offered if you arrive wearing an official or semi-official boy scouts or girl scouts uniform.

What You'll Be Making: A one-of-a-kind gravity-powered wooden race car that you and your partner will design and construct together. You'll then race your finished speed machine against other workshop participants to see whose design is fastest.

What You'll Be Doing: Transforming a raw wooden block into a competitive racecar using the complete array of tools and expertise available at Craftsman Ave. Your finished masterpiece will be tested by racing it against other guests' vehicles on our authentic vintage Pinewood Derby track. Medals and recognition will be awarded in multiple categories: fastest car, slowest car, best looking car, and the most creatively ugly car.

Skill Level: Beginner; absolutely no previous woodworking or racing experience is required.
