You and your special guest will collaboratively construct ONE car together and enjoy a pizza and a bottle of wine to share throughout the workshop experience. At least one participant must be 18 years of age or older.
Depending on your own life journey and experiences, this workshop may offer redemption for the pinewood derby race from 1996 where you placed second, or it may finally provide the opportunity to participate in the pinewood derby experience you dreamed about doing in third grade but never got the chance to join. Now is your perfect moment to build and compete.
Basically: This is a modern, condensed adaptation of the traditional format from your childhood. You receive a block of wood and are given precisely two hours to fashion it into an incredible racing machine that will compete and hopefully win against all the other workshop participants' creations.
The workshop includes some foundational woodworking instruction. We're happy to demonstrate how to use workshop saws and power tools if you prefer to use them to construct your vehicle. That said, you can absolutely join in the fun and enjoy yourself even if you'd rather take a more relaxed approach, using hand tools like sandpaper and prioritizing the visual design and appearance of your car. We'll furnish all the decorative materials you need to customize your creation into something completely unique, offering options like paint, racing stripes, googly eyes, and countless other personalization elements.
The reality is that you're going to have a wonderful experience either way. You'll design the car of your dreams and then witness firsthand the exciting race between all the workshop cars. Unless you're the aggressively competitive type, in which case we recommend bringing actual money to potentially sway the judge's opinion.
A 10% discount on a future workshop is available if you show up wearing an official or semi-official boy scouts or girl scouts uniform.

What You'll Be Making: A unique gravity-powered wooden race car built by you and your partner. You'll then compete with your completed speed machine against all other workshop guests to determine whose design races the fastest.

What You'll Be Doing: Taking a wooden block and converting it into a functional racecar using the full range of tools and knowledge available through Craftsman Ave. Your completed creation will be placed to the test by racing it head-to-head against other guests' cars on our classical vintage Pinewood Derby racing track. Awards and medals will be presented in four exciting categories: fastest performing car, slowest car, most aesthetically beautiful car, and the most outrageously ugly car.
