This three-session class takes the mystery out of selecting and applying beautiful hand-rubbed finishes. You will learn about four traditional finishes--oils, shellac, varnish/poly, and oil-varnish mixtures: their properties, when to use which one, how to apply them, and how to combine them for optimal beauty and durability. Each student will make their own set of samples to keep for future reference. Other topics covered include how to prepare wood for finishing, selection and use of brushes and wiping rags, and techniques for rubbing out between coats.
