This workshop might be your chance to finally overcome the pinewood derby race from 1996 where you came up short in second place, or it could be your long-awaited opportunity to experience the pinewood derby adventure you always dreamed about as a third grader but couldn't participate in due to circumstances beyond your control. Whatever your backstory, now is the moment to build your dream car and compete.
Basically: This is a streamlined modern version of the classic pinewood derby format. You'll receive a wooden block and have exactly two hours to transform it into a spectacular racing machine that will compete against the cars built by all the other workshop participants.
The workshop introduces some basic woodworking techniques. We'll teach you how to use workshop saws and power tools if you want to incorporate them into your car design and construction. However, it's completely fine to participate and have an excellent experience even if you prefer to work by hand with sandpaper and focus primarily on the aesthetics and appearance of your car. We'll supply all the decorative materials and embellishments you'll need to make your car absolutely one-of-a-kind, including multiple paint options, racing stripes, googly eyes, and numerous other creative additions.
The bottom line is simple: you're going to have a fantastic time no matter what, creating the car of your wildest dreams and then watching in real-time as it races in what might be the most exciting competition you've ever seen. Of course, if you're the type who's extremely competitive about everything, you might want to bring some cold cash to potentially persuade the judge.

What You'll Be Making: A completely unique gravity-powered wooden race car that you'll design and build from scratch. Your finished vehicle will then race against every other workshop guest's car to determine whose is fastest.

What You'll Be Doing: Converting a block of wood into a competitive racecar using the complete selection of tools and expertise from Craftsman Ave. You'll test your finished masterpiece by racing it against other participants' cars on our authentic vintage Pinewood Derby racing track. Medals will be awarded to winners in four different categories: the fastest car, the slowest car, the best-looking car, and the creatively ugliest car.

Skill Level: Beginner; previous woodworking experience is absolutely not required.
