Calling all creative young people! Learn to sew on a sewing machine and discover the joy of creating your own projects. In this multi-week course, children ages 8 to 12 will develop sewing skills, creative confidence, and an understanding of construction techniques as they complete a variety of finished projects. Students will gain valuable experience in fine motor skill development, design thinking, and the satisfaction that comes from saying, "I made it myself!"
What Your Child Will Learn:
- How to thread a sewing machine correctly and safely
- Confident machine sewing techniques using the provided equipment
- Sewing fundamentals, including fabric preparation, body measuring, pinning, cutting, and troubleshooting
- How to sew even, durable seams and understand proper stitch construction
- Creative design skills to personalize projects with color and design choices
- The confidence and pride that come from completing handmade creations
Course Curriculum:
Throughout the course, students will complete a progression of sewing projects such as pouches, pillows, and elastic waist skirts. Projects increase in difficulty to match each student's developing skills, and new projects are introduced each session for returning students. Small class sizes of 6 to 8 students ensure a 1 to 4 staff-to-child ratio, allowing personalized hands-on instruction for every learner.
Skill Requirements:
No prior sewing experience is necessary. All levels welcome.
Tools and Materials:
All required tools and materials are included in your registration fee, including access to our Bernina sewing machines during class time.
