This introductory class is perfect for anyone who has never danced before or is just beginning their dance journey. Salsa is one of the most widely practiced and beloved Latin dances in New York City, with deep historical roots in Cuban music and strong popularity throughout Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. The rich, infectious rhythms of salsa have developed organically from a dynamic blend of musical influences from various Caribbean and South American countries, creating the vibrant style we know and love today. In New York specifically, salsa dancing, often called Salsa ON2, follows a characteristic forward and backward motion danced with a partner, creating a conversational quality between dancers. This dynamic and engaging dance style features a diverse variety of footwork patterns, close partner connections, styled movements and arm extensions, spinning techniques, and the expression of a confident attitude and musicality.
Throughout this class, you will learn new and exciting dance moves and techniques each week, building your repertoire progressively. You will develop the ability to express yourself fully through the rhythms and energy of salsa music, moving with confidence and connection.
No partner is required for participation, as students rotate with all other class members.
