Class Description

Description

This course is designed to teach you how to tell a story. It will teach how a story is structured, what makes a good open and a good close, and what you want and need to see and hear in between.

A post-producer is responsible for transforming an often extensive quantity of unorganized audio and video clips into a cohesive story that entertains, informs, and above all, holds the viewers’ attention.

Students will have access to all footage and interviews that were shot for a segment that has already aired. They will also have transcripts of each of the interviews. Over the course of 3 weekends plus 4 weeknights, students will work with this footage to create and produce their own version of the segment.

In order to produce these segments, students will need to follow procedures similar to what post-producers are usually required to do. Post-producers need to submit a script for approval, and revise that script if needed, before getting the green light to start cutting. This course will duplicate that workflow model.

Once a script is approved, students will work with editors (fellow students in the class) to produce the finished segment. Students are welcome to take the finished segment with them to use on their reel. (footage will have burned in timecode).

Prerequisites: Students must have prior knowledge of either Avid Media Composer, Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro 7 or Final Cut Pro X before taking this class.
