Learn the fundamentals of recording, editing, and mixing audio for podcasts in this hands-on workshop. Students will explore how sound works, how to build an effective audio signal path, and how to choose and position microphones for different recording situations. Through demonstrations and practical exercises, participants will gain experience with mixers, audio interfaces, digital audio workstations, gain structure, acoustics, and common podcast recording workflows.
The workshop also covers essential editing and mixing techniques, including EQ, compression, noise reduction, bussing, loudness, and other audio processing tools. Students will work with examples of studio interviews, field recordings, remote interviews, voiceover, and pre-recorded material while learning how to troubleshoot common audio problems and achieve cleaner, more consistent sound. The course concludes with exporting and preparing audio for podcast distribution, with an opportunity to create a sample podcast episode using multiple recording elements.
