Each lesson consists of forty-five minutes of instruction.
For Beginner Drum Students:
From your very first lesson, you'll sit behind a complete drum set and begin learning immediately. You will become familiar with the standard five-piece drum set configuration, learning the proper name for each individual component, exploring various playing techniques and approaches, understanding rhythmic notation and reading music, learning fundamental rudiments and building rhythmic vocabulary, mastering counting systems, practicing backbeats, and distinctive fills. We'll provide practice tips and daily exercise routines that you can perform at home between lessons. My core teaching philosophy emphasizes that students achieve the strongest musical proficiency through consistent daily practice combined with studying music that genuinely interests them personally.
For Intermediate Drum Students:
You will progressively develop independence in your playing, expanding your rhythmic vocabulary and musical expression, continuing to strengthen your music-reading skills, learning to play along with recorded tracks and accompaniment, exploring and experimenting with various musical grooves and different playing styles, and maintaining focus on developing a strong sense of timing and musical feel throughout your practice.
For Advanced Drum Students:
Advanced topics include studying odd time signatures and complex meters, understanding metric displacement and polyrhythmic concepts, exploring metric modulation techniques, developing proficiency in soloing and improvisation skills, advancing sight-reading abilities, and understanding subdivision principles
Materials to bring:
- Comfortable, unrestricted clothing
- Notebook for writing notes and assignments
- Folder or binder for organizing handouts and instructional materials
