Description

In this class, we will explore the fundamentals of traditional Irish music on the fiddle. We will learn about stylistic nuances that make Irish fiddle playing different from other styles of folk music such as old time or bluegrass, while also drawing a throughline via some commonalities in these traditions.

We will learn a polka, a waltz, a jig, and possibly a reel, exploring various rhythms common to Irish traditional music. Through the exploration of these tunes, we will talk about important elements of the style including bowing patterns and left hand ornamentation. Tunes will be taught in a hybrid method to accommodate different learning styles - focusing on the oral tradition, while also working with sheet music for those who are able to read it. By the end of the semester we will have some fun, common tunes under our belt that will be great to play at any traditional seísiun!

No prior experience is necessary, however a basic understanding of the violin (string names, finger and bow positions) is helpful!

Refund Policy

Full refund less 5% cancellation fee or full credit for another session of classes are available until 4 business days before your 1st class begins.
If you cancel your registration 2 business days before your 1st or 2nd class begins, a partial prorated school credit can be given.
If your class has met 3 times or it is less than 24 hours before your 3rd class, no credit is available.

The school reserves the right to cancel a class due to insufficient registration.

If the school cancel a class due to low enrollment or other reasons, you will be notified by email and/or phone before the class start date, and we will issue school credit. If you would like a refund, you must contact us at [email protected] to arrange for a refund. In the event of a canceled class, we would love to help you find an alternate instrument to learn!

In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
