In this five-day workshop experience, students will learn the complete art of creating their own original comics, beginning with writing and developing a script, creating detailed storyboards, sketching out scenes, and inking their artwork. Students will explore various illustration techniques and styles to effectively convey their unique story through dynamic and engaging drawing. Participants will start by creating a complete one-page comic strip, then progress to a three-page comic with any remaining workshop time available.
All materials are included in the course fee.
Wil Bigio (they/them) is an accomplished artist, illustrator, and graphic designer born and raised in New York City. Wil creates comics and zines, logo designs, packaging designs, posters, character designs, book covers, business cards, and many other design projects. Their happiest moments are spent creating quick observational drawings during their commute, in cafes, and at concerts. Wil's pocket sketchbooks, affectionately called their "butt books," form the foundation of their artistic practice and showcase their deep love, appreciation, and respect for the human figure and its incredible potential for visual storytelling and expression.
When not creating observational sketches of people around them, Wil loves to spend time reading art books, visiting museums and galleries, taking walks with friends, and watching favorite cartoons and animated films. Wil has studied fine art at the Art Students League of New York with instructor Steve Walker and earned an Associates degree in Illustration from The Pratt Institute.
