The 10 Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training Program serves as an entry-level orientation introducing construction workers to hazard recognition and prevention on job sites. This foundational training covers diverse construction safety and health hazards that workers commonly encounter, providing awareness and knowledge aligned with OSHA recommendations for all construction industry participants. Participants receive certificates verifying successful course completion. Refresher training is encouraged periodically to maintain current awareness of evolving OSHA regulations and industry standards.
The program is available in both English and Spanish, ensuring accessibility for diverse workforces. Core course content addresses introduction to OSHA regulatory framework, the OSHA Focus Four Hazards encompassing fall protection, electrical hazards, struck-by incidents, and caught-in or caught-between hazards, proper personal protective equipment and lifesaving equipment, and health hazards in construction, including hazard communication and silica exposure. Elective topics allow customization based on industry sector and worker roles: materials handling, storage, use, and disposal; hand and power tools; scaffolds; cranes, derricks, hoists, elevators, and conveyors; excavation safety; stairways and ladders; and other OSHA construction hazards or policies.
Important note for New York construction contractors: Public works projects exceeding 250,000 dollars require all laborers, workers, and mechanics on site to complete OSHA 10-hour construction safety and health training. This requirement, established under Labor Law 220-h, must appear in all advertised bids and contracts for qualifying public work projects.
