How can sculpture actively respond to the body or the environment? What can be discovered by making light sculpture mobile?
During this course, we will explore the possibilities of using flame worked glass in conjunction with neon, plasma, and LEDs. We will use a small scale battery controlled microprocessor (Arduino) to control and change these light sculptures in response to sound, temperature, ambient light, heartbeat, movement, etc. via stress sensors, making them responsive to their environs.
Possibilities for student projects include wearable or portable (battery powered) sculpture, maquettes for larger work, responsive light experiments, and more. Some experience may be helpful, but all levels are welcome.
