About Abigail's Kitchen

The school, located in Greenwich Village, is owned by Abigail Hitchcock. It has been open for almost 13 years, something of a record in Manhattan.

The cooking classes in in this school offer a unique experience of learning in a working restaurant kitchen. (If there’s a sudden rush, students stand back!) There are also tours in various New York City neighborhoods—Chinatown Shop and Cook is a perennially sold-out favorite. In another popular cooking class, One Night Stand, the student/chef works with Abby to plan, cook and serve family and friends a meal at the restaurant.

Notes:

We don't have any age restrictions on either our classes or events. We take people of all ages, but those under 21 years of age are not allowed to consume wine or any alcoholic beverages.

We had so much much at this class! The sushi making was harder than it looks but we still had so much fun with the hands on experience. Abigail and her staff are also so nice and so much fun to talk with and ask questions to! I would recommend this class to anybody who’s interested in food and cooking!

Loved the instructor and the fellow “students.” Learned a lot about how to spot and purchase the best seafood in Chinatown. Was impressed by the variety of seafood we sampled/cooked. Wished that we could have visited a variety of fish markets rather than just one and that more time would have been spent on learning cooking techniques.

The class was fun, informative and supportive. It was so great to learn how to make a pie with the help of passionate bakers!
  • Lovers’ Menu for Valentine’s Day III

Staff were very enthusiastic and welcoming. Lots of wine! Might be because there were a lot more people than usual, the overall experience took longer than we expected - around 3 hours till we actually ate (don't come in an empty stomach). Format was more demonstration based than hands on. The chef spent a good amount of time explaining the process.

Our team had an absolutely amazing time at the cooking class! We not only learned about fresh ingredients and different cooking techniques, but also got to relax, enjoy a drink, and share plenty of laughs. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and it was the perfect blend of learning and fun. We left with new skills, great memories, and a stronger sense of connection. I’d highly recommend this experience to any team looking to bond in a unique and enjoyable way!

I learned a lot from Abby. I really feel like my pies are going to be next-level when I bake for the holidays this year. She's incredibly knowledgeable and patient and kept dropping little nuggets of knowledge about food science and techniques that were so helpful! I would suggest having the recipe pre-printed so we can take notes during the class. I would definitely go back to learn from her again. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was that two hours was a really short time for what we were doing. It was not clear in the class description that we wouldn't actually finish baking the pies. I would suggest three hours or have some of the prep already finished (like measuring out ingredients and peeling apples) or doing a different type of pie filling that doesn't require peeling and cutting (maybe something like blueberries?) so that the pie is completely finished at the end. I baked my pie today and it was DELICIOUS, but it looks a little funky because I had to travel by subway for an hour with the uncooked crust.
