Class Description

Description

Digital Photo Academy's skilled instructors are flexible with your schedule while offering 3 hours of personalized instruction structured to fulfill the unique needs and goals of individual learners or groups.

Your session typically opens with an engaging discussion about your camera, your vision for photography, and your specific learning objectives. This conversation naturally progresses into a productive, on-location photo session that supports your personal photographic goals. You might focus on landscape photography, portrait sessions, architectural work, or any other photographic specialty that excites your imagination and calls to you creatively.

This private instruction concludes with an informative demonstration of various post-capture techniques and workflow processes. The distribution of time across each section will change based on your preferences and the time frame you've selected. Both available class options include a convenient meal break that fits your schedule and convenience, allowing you to refuel and recharge during your learning experience.

Topics to be discussed:

Equipment and Camera Discussion

Are you exploring a new camera purchase, or do you have existing gear you plan to use long-term for photographic work? Your instructor will collaborate with you to deepen your knowledge of your equipment's features and operations, offering comprehensive guidance on maximizing your camera's potential and capabilities.

Should you work in JPEG format, RAW format, or a certain resolution for your particular purposes? Is your work intended for online display, home printing projects, or sharing on social media platforms? Do you have a photographic interest such as macro work, sweeping vistas, wildlife documentation, portraits, sports photography, natural light work, or studio photography? This discussion helps your instructor recommend the ideal settings, suitable lens options, and valuable accessories for your specific needs and creative goals.

On-Location Photography Sessions

Your instructor brings extensive knowledge of location photography and possesses access to special venues beyond typical public locations that most photographers cannot reach. You could benefit tremendously from professional guidance while photographing at a local zoo, botanical center, historic property, or sporting events. Our instructors often have newspaper photography backgrounds and professional experience, and can connect you with community competitions to help you hone and sharpen your abilities.

Whether you're drawn to nature photography, street documentation, portrait work, or other genres entirely, your instructor will build a custom learning plan matched to your interests. Your session will happen at a location specifically supporting your goals and objectives. Your instructor will share time-tested techniques for creating portfolio-worthy images. Composition is an artistic skill that requires practice and refinement, and though your distinctive style will develop naturally, your instructor will teach proven compositional methods that transform your personal vision into finished photographs.

Post-Production and Image Management

Following your field work and technique teaching, organizing your photographic collection for easy sharing and reliable retrieval becomes crucial and essential. Your instructor will carefully examine the images you've captured during your session, identifying patterns in how you compose and see the world around you. Do you repeatedly use the same perspective? Do you position subjects consistently in your frame? Do you shoot at close range or from a distance? Noticing these habits lets you strengthen them purposefully, change them intentionally, and recognize expanded possibilities in future photography sessions.

Digital photography offers numerous methods to improve mistakes or shortcomings from your field shooting experience. Was your lighting inadequate or harsh and unflattering? Did you miss the composition you wanted to capture? Your instructor will show you specific images from your session and demonstrate practical Photoshop edits and adjustments, thoroughly discussing how each enhancement improves your photographs.
