Get ready for an unforgettable week of ceramics at Kids Pottery Camp 2026! This professionally structured, five-day immersive camp runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with three experienced instructors guiding campers through an extraordinary range of clay techniques and processes.
Students will explore both wheel throwing and hand-building methods alongside more advanced surface treatments and firing techniques, including nerikomi (the art of creating patterns through colored clay inlay), neriage (marbling multiple colored clays together), horsehair raku firing (a dramatic low-fire technique that produces distinctive smoky surface marks), and glass melting. All of this is supplemented by extensive glazing and finishing work that teaches students how professional ceramic artists complete their pieces.
The camp is based at our main studio at 786 9th Avenue, with planned field trips to Ceramics on 10th, Zerimar Clay, and DeWitt Clinton Park. These outings give campers an authentic look at different studio environments and a broader sense of the ceramics community they are becoming part of.
By the end of the week, campers will have worked in clay with a depth and variety that goes well beyond typical art camp experiences. They will have thrown pieces on the wheel, built pieces by hand, experimented with surface decoration and specialty firing effects, and developed a genuine feel for clay as a medium.
Optional extended care is available for an additional fee: early drop-off from 8:30 AM costs $100 for the week, and late pick-up until 6:00 PM is available for $200 for the week. Enrollment is limited to ensure every camper gets meaningful instructor attention, so early registration is strongly encouraged.
