If you do not know how to draw, this class is specifically designed with you in mind. Likewise, if you have some drawing experience but want to develop a more systematic, organized approach to drawing that will accelerate your learning and prevent frustration and wasted effort, this course offers exactly what you need. Students will master the fundamental principles of drawing, including paper and pencil selection, how to use shape and form to create the illusion of depth, measuring and establishing correct proportions, and rendering three-dimensional form through shading techniques.
What We Will Cover:
Drawing Fundamentals: On day one, you will learn how to render the three-dimensional world on a two-dimensional surface by using and enhancing basic geometric forms. On day two, you will learn how to use proportion effectively in your drawings while developing a more thoughtful and intentional approach to pencil control and technique. On day three, you will learn shading concepts and create a well-formed, properly proportioned, and skillfully shaded drawing that demonstrates your understanding of all three days' lessons.
Paper Selection: This section examines the critical differences between sketch paper and drawing paper, smooth versus rough surfaces, and papers specifically formulated for pencil work as opposed to charcoal and other media.
Pencil Techniques: You will learn what different pencil grades are designed for and how to use them to create superior drawings. We will practice cross-hatching and shading using pencil "washes" to build tonal values and depth.
Eraser Techniques: Using both kneaded and plastic erasers, you will discover how to create various drawing effects, highlights, and corrections in your work.
