Glassblowing is a dance of physical forces. In this introductory class, students will learn the foundations of glassblowing, including safety in the studio, body movement, basic techniques, and finishing pieces.
We will put special emphasis on gravity and centrifugal force, which are the most valuable tools in understanding the material. We will learn to utilize these forces to create unique forms, experimenting in the studio with lengthening, spinning, and letting the glass become new and unexpected shapes.
Working quickly and freely, students will create a variety of both solid and hollow, symmetrical and asymmetrical pieces.
No experience necessary.
