This is a glassblowing class geared toward the intermediate/advanced student that is seeking to break out of the neo-classical shape universe. The course will focus on bubble set-ups, finding center, and creating drastic transitions in form. Demonstrations will focus on specific revelations that can open up one’s ability to create a broad spectrum of shapes. Some of these concepts are simple, but priceless, others may be frustrating for days and months before they turn into gold. As a one week class the focus will be primarily in clear glass, but maintain an open dialogue in relation to how patterning like cane, incalmo, etc. might affect one’s approach to a form. Ultimately this class will seek to expand each student’s vocabulary with the material, and remove a few stumbling blocks from their path as a maker.
