Learn the basics of flameworking to make simple to more complex borosilicate rings. Students are encouraged to explore the fluidity of glass in the form of wearable organic shapes, irregular forms and experimental designs. Bring your sketchbook!
What to Expect: Through this workshop, students will learn the fundamentals of flameworking including torch control and basic tool survey. There will be three short demonstrations during the class with work time in between. The first demo will cover bending and shaping with clear borosilicate and acquaint students with the unique behavior of the glass. The second demo will introduce color and techniques for more intricate designs. Finally, the third demo will explore embedding different materials such as metal leaf and cubic zirconia. After demonstrations, expect to make between 2 - 3 successful objects in this class, and a couple failures, while gaining confidence and skill in the studio.
Eligibility: No previous experience required. Open to ages 12 and up.
Pick-up: The glass needs to cool down overnight then be carefully removed from the mandrels, so the students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work.
This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.
