You don't need to go to Europe to bask on a delicious Moule Frites! Come and prepare your powder and frits recipe to create lush and layered experiences in the shape of objects - nature inspired. In these 8 weeks with Catarina Cubelo, you will learn different ways of making pâte de verre. Similarly to cooking, with the Pâte de Verre technique, you can mix glass powders with glass frits to make different tints and with specific color placement onto a mold.
We will cover how to make: models in clay, patterning, and mold making. We will go over different firing cycles, and do at least 3 types of firing.
What to Expect: Participants can expect to leave with 6 finished objects plus sample tiles, this varies depending on the participant's choices and size of the piece.
Kilnforming work involves a mix of seated and standing activities, including preparing glass pieces for firing, and loading and unloading the kiln. A particulate respirator mask is required when working with fine glass powders or unloading kilns after firing and would be provided for you if needed. Handling glass and tools may require a certain level of dexterity.
Eligibility: No previous experience required. Open to ages 14 and up.
Pick-up: The glass needs to be fused in the kiln and cool down overnight, so the students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work.
This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass.
