This course introduces a specific frit/pâte de verre technique which translates the idea of intaglio printing into a kilnforming process. Students will learn how to transfer handwritten text, drawing, color and structure from a mold onto glass. By using the mold-making materials as a canvas, we will create flat pâte de verre castings that carry our imagery, and develop ideas of how to manipulate these in the kiln to bring them into a sculptural form. The class will give an introduction to this specific technique and its conceptual applications. Students should bring drawings, text, small objects—anything inspiring to class.
