Description

This introductory flameworking class will focus on making beautiful tumblers on the torch. We will be using borosilicate glass and its wondrous heat-resilient properties to blow and tool straight walled cups. Borrowing from the ideas of vessel making in the hotshop, we’ll learn to work completely solo and meditatively. Expect to walk away with a great system to practice alone and resources for next steps: tumblers are just the beginning!

What to Expect: The class will rely heavily on students getting as many repetitions of the technique as possible. Students can expect to walk away with some small vessels.

Eligibility: Some experience working borosilicate glass or blowing forms in the hot shop will be useful but is not required. Open to ages 14 and up.

Pick-up: The glass needs to cool down overnight so the students may have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work from the final day of class.

This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.

School Notes:

Preparing for class

It is recommended that students bring notebooks and water bottles to in person classes. All basic materials and supplies needed for the class will be provided. If students wish to use specific tools or materials not supplied in class they are responsible for obtaining these items themselves.
