Class Description

Description

If you've been wanting to learn to sew modern + fun patchwork quilts, this is the class for you! In this one-day intensive, you'll learn how to construct a Looper Quilt top.

Looper is a unique quilt pattern with modular blocks, meaning they can be rearranged in any direction to create a continuous design. Follow the suggested designs or create your own!

This workshop will cover:

  • How to design a LOOPER quilt layout (check out #looperquilt on Instagram for some amazing inspiration from other makers!)
  • How to accurately cut straight and curved fabric pieces with a rotary cutter and cutting mat
  • How to assemble your straight and curved fabric pieces (you must have machine sewing experience)
  • How to iron in quilting
Students will learn to create and assemble quilt blocks for their design, however students will not complete a quilt top during this workshop! Our focus will be learning the skills needed to create this quilt, and students will use the blocks made and skills learned in class to complete the quilt top on their own. If you don't have a machine at home, check out our Open Sewing Hours!

Want to make a complete quilt from the top you start in this workshop? Come back for our Beginner Quilting Workshop, where you'll learn how to assemble your "quilt sandwich" with batting and binding. Please note: We can only accommodate crib-sized quilts in our Beginner Quilting workshop due to time limitations.

Skill Requirements:

  • Please note this is not a learn-to-sew class.
  • Students must have basic machine sewing knowledge and be comfortable using a sewing machine.
  • If you do not know how to sew, please take one of our Sewing 101 classes as a minimum prerequisite to this class.
Materials

Materials needed for class are available to be purchased at our shop at a 10% student discount.

For a baby sized Looper Quilt Top you will need:

  • The Looper Quilt Pattern
  • 7 different fabrics- 6 for stripes (1/2 yard each) and 1 for the background (at least 1 yard). We recommend using Quilting Cotton
  • 1 spool of Thread
Note if you would like to work towards a larger quilt top, consult the pattern for material requirements

Refund Policy

We do not issue refunds on workshop registrations.

  • If you register for a workshop and later become unable to attend, we will gladly offer a credit if you notify us at least 5 business days before the workshop.
  • Workshop credits are not redeemable for cash and cannot be applied to merchandise purchases
  • We are unable to offer credits of any kind, or honor reschedule requests, with less than 5 business days advance notice.
  • Credits cannot be given for any registrations for workshops hosted by visiting/ out of town instructors. Due to the nature of these one-time-only workshops, all events hosted by special guests are subject to this policy. Thank you for understanding!
  • In the event a class is cancelled or rescheduled due to inclement weather, or other Act of God, you will receive a credit to take another class at a later date (in-person or virtual).

Our workshops require a great deal of pre-planning, including ordering supplies and tools, booking staff, and making commitments to pay our instructors -- all based on the number of students who register. When students ask to cancel or reschedule at the last minute, we lose money. As a small business, we are unable to absorb these costs and still keep our class prices low.

In fairness to all of our customers, we are unable to make exceptions to our policy, including for reasons of illness or travel. If you are unable to attend a workshop at the last minute, we suggest giving your spot to a friend!

Refund Processing Fees:

  • The following only applies in the event a provider’s cancellation/refund policy allows for cancellations and a full refund, please see above or contact CourseHorse to determine eligibility.
  • In the event a class is still going to occur and a full refund is requested, and you are eligible for a full refund in accordance with the provider’s policy, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from your refund amount.
