Class Description

Description

Get caught up in the joy of weaving! Learn tapestry weaving techniques as you design and create your own woven wall art in this engaging and meditative workshop. Total beginners are absolutely welcome!

Skills You'll Develop:

  • Properly setting up the warp thread on your loom
  • Executing essential weaving stitches, including plain weave, soumak technique, and traditional rya knots
  • Adding professional fringe and decorative tassels
  • Working with varied fiber weights and textures to create visual interest
  • Planning and executing your own original design

You'll complete a small woven piece (approximately 4 to 6 inches wide) and leave with the skills and confidence to create additional woven works on your own.

Your registration fee includes all materials needed to make your wall hanging. You'll receive a small wooden frame loom (which is yours to keep following the workshop), warp thread, yarn in various colors and weights, and a wooden dowel for hanging your finished piece.

Materials Note: You're welcome to bring your own yarn, especially if you have specific colors you'd like to feature in your weaving. Worsted and bulky weight yarns work best for this project. We'll provide sufficient yarn for all participants, but feel free to bring along any special fibers you wish to incorporate.

Weaving requires patience and time, so some participants may not finish their projects during class. However, you'll leave equipped with all the necessary knowledge and techniques to complete your work at home.

Refund Policy

We do not issue refunds on workshop registrations.

  • If you register for a workshop and later become unable to attend, we will gladly offer a credit if you notify us at least 5 business days before the workshop.
  • Workshop credits are not redeemable for cash and cannot be applied to merchandise purchases
  • We are unable to offer credits of any kind, or honor reschedule requests, with less than 5 business days advance notice.
  • Credits cannot be given for any registrations for workshops hosted by visiting/ out of town instructors. Due to the nature of these one-time-only workshops, all events hosted by special guests are subject to this policy. Thank you for understanding!
  • In the event a class is cancelled or rescheduled due to inclement weather, or other Act of God, you will receive a credit to take another class at a later date (in-person or virtual).

Our workshops require a great deal of pre-planning, including ordering supplies and tools, booking staff, and making commitments to pay our instructors -- all based on the number of students who register. When students ask to cancel or reschedule at the last minute, we lose money. As a small business, we are unable to absorb these costs and still keep our class prices low.

In fairness to all of our customers, we are unable to make exceptions to our policy, including for reasons of illness or travel. If you are unable to attend a workshop at the last minute, we suggest giving your spot to a friend!

Refund Processing Fees:

  • The following only applies in the event a provider’s cancellation/refund policy allows for cancellations and a full refund, please see above or contact CourseHorse to determine eligibility.
  • In the event a class is still going to occur and a full refund is requested, and you are eligible for a full refund in accordance with the provider’s policy, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from your refund amount.

  • Beginner Loom Weaving

I know it was just supposed to be a beginners’ class, but the instructor was really not actually teaching much. She is due in three weeks, I get it, but she really phoned it in: explained how we make a loom and begin weaving, but no real steps after that. When people asked how to make shapes or do anything else specific she would just go to this person and sort of show it, but ignoring the whole rest of the class, who had to guess how to do anything. Makes me hesitant to take any other classes at this place, as much as I’m dying to be in-person crafting classes.
