Intro to CNC Router: Custom Sign

In this one-on-one private lesson, students will learn the basics of how to use our 20"x30" CNC Router. The CNC Router is an incredibly versatile, computer-controlled machine which enables users to create perfect wood inlays, 2D & 3D shapes, and engravings. Create an endless array of projects like custom signs, stackable furniture, engraved cutting boards, logos, landscape displays, games, guitars, dollhouses, wood tools, and so much more!

In this workshop, students will design & carve a custom sign on a wooden base. All three stages of using the CNC Router will be covered, including vector graphic design in Inkscape, converting vectors to GCODE in Aspire, and running the CNC using Mach3 to cut your project.

Display your project at home, or gift it for the holidays. Either way, you'll leave equipped and ready to take on your next CNC project!

Note:

• Students should bring their laptop with Free Inkscape Software(http://Iinkscape.org) already installed before coming to class; if you run into trouble downloading, try the latest Beta version. Alternatively, other vector graphic software like Illustrator or AutoCAD may be used if the student is well acquainted.
• All materials, safety goggles, and earmuffs are provided; however, we require students to bring dust masks to class, and recommend students bring their own personal safety goggles and ear protection.
• Students must be at least 18 years old to participate.
