Our one-week Kids Explorations in Acting Camp is a hands-on introduction to performance that focuses on the joy of collaborative play, imaginative storytelling, and the foundational skills that all great actors rely on. Through theater games, physical exercises, and ensemble-based activities, students are introduced to the craft of acting in a warm, supportive, and energetic environment.
Students explore ensemble building, foundational storytelling concepts, improvisation techniques, and an introduction to The Barrow Group's unique acting tools. They also participate in creating the physical elements of their stories, developing props, assembling simple costumes, and building set pieces that bring their characters' worlds to life. The week culminates in a sharing for friends and family to attend.
Working from either a piece of children's literature or an original story developed entirely by the group, students build on their ensemble skills and dive into the performance techniques that help them create and share compelling short plays.
Our philosophy is simple: to act is to play. Students thrive when they feel safe to take creative risks and are met with consistent, positive encouragement. This camp gives kids the same foundational tools our adult professional actors train with at The Barrow Group.
What distinguishes The Barrow Group School from many other NYC studios is our teacher training program. Every instructor who teaches here has trained for years in our specific approach before working with students. That depth of preparation shapes everything that happens in the room.
