Description

Clown Classics is for comedians, actors and clowns who want to learn how to riff on familiar stories to make fresh material, characters, and even full-length shows.

In this intensive class, veteran adapter Seth Bockley will challenge participants to combine familiar literary forms with the pure playfulness of clown. We’ll explore physical theater and improv techniques, stories from Joan of Arc to Frankenstein, and an adaptation approach that suits participants’ own excitement about narrative, existing characters, and unique clowning style. By the end of the session, we’ll have the seeds for future masterpieces and fiascos.

Students will be asked to bring in a familiarity with the BASIC (and we mean basic) characters and outlines of some classic works of literature, to be distributed after enrollment. (i.e. Oedipus = king who marries his mom & kills his dad, blinds himself at the end!)

Please Note:

There will be a half hour break.
Class may end at 7:30 PM depending on number of enrollments.

Refund Policy

Class payments are non-refundable.

In the event you have to drop a class before it begins and give us at least 8 business days notice, we can credit your tuition toward a future class.

In the event a class fails to meet a minimum number of sign-ups (6 enrollments), students will be notified by email and given the option to transfer into another class, keep a class credit on the books, or offered a full refund - whichever is preferable to the student.

In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
