The class environment encourages mingling, sharing of cooking experiences, enjoying a meal together, and departing with renewed confidence and enthusiasm for Indian culinary traditions.

Indian Bread Classes: Rotis, Naan, Stuffed Paratha with Accompanying Curry

Indian breads represent a rich variety of flatbreads, most crafted from wheat flour known as Ata or chapatti flour, and maida (all-purpose flour). These breads exhibit remarkable diversity in texture and preparation: some are rich and flaky, others puffed and steamy, herbed and crisp, or so delicate they shatter at the slightest touch. Roti and chapati, both unleavened wheat-flour breads, are rolled considerably thinner than naan and cooked on a tawa, or flat griddle. The two breads share such similarity that they are frequently interchanged in name; technically speaking, chapati represents a specific category of roti.

Class Menu:

  • Roti and chapatti
  • Naan
  • Aloo paratha (potato-filled flatbread)
  • Poori (traditional fried bread)
  • Chana masala (spiced chickpea curry)

  • Indian Bread (Couples Class)

Mukti was a great teacher, doing everything from scratch and engaging you in the tasks, she gave tons of useful background information about the "why's" of cooking Indian which I find really helpful in understanding what you're doing. Toasting and grinding the spices was a great way to learn about them and the resulting aromas and tastes were worth the effort. I would highly recommend the classes.
