Class Description

Description

Master the most essential skill you'll ever develop in the kitchen before you ever approach the stove. This foundational technique will truly transform how you cook and prepare meals.

Discover how to slice and dice with professional-level skill and precision. This comprehensive course covers the essential knives every cook needs in their collection; proper knife grip techniques for optimal efficiency, speed, and safety; the important distinction between sharpening and honing; how to effectively use your honing steel to maintain your blades; and a practical trick to eliminate stubborn garlic odor from your hands and fingers.

You'll apply these techniques immediately by preparing two delicious dishes: a vibrant couscous salad with roasted vegetables and luscious caramelized pears, both showcasing the results of your newly perfected cutting skills.

I learned a lot. After I’m not sure how many years of cooking, I finally know the right way to hold a knife and how to approach many ordinary tasks. The women who ran the class were knowledgeable, engaging and covered lots of ground. I have since shared many tips from the class with friends. They are eager to take the course as well. A wonderful way to spend an afternoon!

The knife techniques were helpful, and it was great to learn about honing. I also appreciated the insights on non-Western knives. Class size was small, as promised, but there was another class going on concurrently. It was quite noisy.
